The IREN Technologies Innovations Platform

The Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) Technologies and Innovation Platform (ITIP) aims to catalyze problem solving and productivity in the agribusiness sector. The ITIP platform has showcased over 50 solutions since its inception. The ITIP2020 initiative is supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF).

These areas are:-

  1. Finance: Technology and smart solutions that address the challenge of cash flow among Small Holder Farmers in the Lake Region Economic Bloc
  2. Security: Technology and Smart solutions that address the challenge of petty theft that curtails productivity in crop and animal husbandry
  3. Labor Enhancing: Technology and smart solutions that address the challenge of use of rudimentary (back-breaking processes) in production and value addition processes
  4. Markets: Technology and Smart solutions that connect major market centers in the Lake Region Economic Bloc to facilitate an efficient market system
  5. Big Data: Technology and smart solutions that enable players in the agribusiness value chain to leverage on big data/information

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATING IN ITIP 2020

The individuals should:

  1. Be aged 18 years and above.
  2. Have at least completed secondary education.
  3. Express an interest or understand challenges facing agribusiness sector in their counties.
  4. Be available for training and meetings throughout the program (March – November 2020).
  5. Be in agri-related Institutions, companies and organizations who have been in operation for more than 3 years could also apply through a representative.
  6. Be residents of the 14 lake region counties: Siaya, Homabay, Migori, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Bomet, Kisumu, Kericho and Nandi Counties.

ABOUT ITIP 2020 

The ITIP2020 edition aimed to catalyze problem solving and productivity among players in the agribusiness value chain. Faced with the COVID19 challenges, ITIP2020 adopted a collaborative approach with Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) institutions to address access to finance, insecurity, mechanization, and market access challenges. Participants are drawn from the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) of Kenya.
